We've all been there: it's been 4 hours and you are still lying awake at night on your 100th toss and turn. Sleep seems impossible, and you have tried everything you could think of to try to sleep. Daylight approaches inch by inch, second by second, wondering, "Have I tried everything?" I have found it depends from person to person, but I feel that methods to help one fall asleep are quite abundant. It's almost something you won't run out of ideas for, and even the most absurd thing not only sound plausible, but they work. I've heard everything from a glass of warm milk to running a lap outside to easy listening music. To be honest, just about anything could be considered a task to aid one in falling asleep. I have always been partial to falling asleep while listening to music quite simple and comforting, especially if it something you are familiar with. Having the familiarity of something auditory, it overtakes one of your senses, if not more, and I've found its easiest that way. The other way I find the easiest, not necessarily by choice, is by putting on a movie you really, really want to see past 9:30pm, chances are slumber awaits before the opening credits are done rolling. That may just be me, but I know there has to be a few of you out there who have video narcolepsy just like me. Deep breathing exercises I know work for so many people, as they have worked for me in the past, but I feel when having difficulty falling asleep, the more your senses are firing off the worse, which is why I enjoy music, since it masks a few of those senses and gives you something to focus on other than whatever it might have been keeping you from sleep. I want to know the best way to fall asleep, because that as I know I plagues everyone, at the absolute very least once in their life. It's no fun, nobody can say its enjoyable. But it's interesting that most of the best ways to fall asleep lies around some sort of an enjoyable experience..... makes you think.

🖖For me it's usually reviewing a pleasant section of a book I've been reading or have read in the past. It has to be something familiar. If I start imagining new stories, I'm wide awake. I've tried the deep breathing thing, but only out of desperation. I'd love to hear what works and what definitely doesn't work for you.
